YONKERS, NY — The Leveler News has launched a free property tax calculator to help Yonkers residents understand what the City Council's newly adopted budget means for their wallets.

On May 29, the Yonkers City Council unanimously adopted the FY2026-2027 budget, a $1.64 billion plan that includes a 4.75% tax rate increase, which is down from the 5.25% originally proposed, but still an increase for homeowners across the city.

City officials have framed the reduction as a win for taxpayers. But what does 4.75% actually mean for your specific property? The Leveler's calculator lets residents enter their own home's assessed value and get a clear, personalized estimate of the impact of the increase.

"Budget numbers in a press release don't tell you what your next tax bill will be," said Bunni Elian, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Leveler. "This tool begins to paint that picture."

Property tax rates aren't set in a vacuum. They're shaped by the budget decisions and priorities of the officials voters elect.

The calculator is part of The Leveler's ongoing accountability coverage of city finances and is free to use.
